Tyronn Lue took over as the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2020 and while he has been unable to lead the franchise to a title, he has still done a pretty good job, considering all the injuries.

He is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the league at the moment but his future with the Clippers has been somewhat thrown in doubt. NBA insider Chris Haynes is reporting that Lue and the team are unlikely to agree on an extension this summer.

“Tyronn Lue and the Los Angeles Clippers are unlikely to agree to an extension this offseason, meaning the head coach will finish out the remainder of his contract and could hit the free-agent market as early as the summer of 2024, league sources tell B/R,” Haynes wrote.

Lue has a team option for the 2024-25 season as per Haynes, so the Clippers can still keep him till 2025 if they wish to. In his three seasons, Lue has accumulated a 133-103 record and led the franchise to their first-ever appearance in the Western Conference Finals. His tenure so far is just a big what-if, as injuries to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have constantly derailed the team in the playoffs.

If he does ever hit the open market, a whole host of teams would pursue him, and the Suns and the Bucks were reported to be interested last month when they’d have had to give up compensation to get him.

A Clippers Media Member Claimed There Are Issues Between Tyronn Lue And The Front Office

So, why would the Clippers not do everything in their power to extend Lue right away, when he’s so highly rated by teams around the league? Well, a Clippers media member claimed Lue hates the front office, and vice versa. The individual also stated that most of the players hate Lue.

We haven’t really heard anything along these lines anywhere else, but it might explain why the Clippers are not rushing to hand him an extension. If they do let him walk though, he is certain to get a job elsewhere in an instant.
