After a loss in the first round, the Atlanta Hawks are facing countless questions about their roster as they head into 2023 free agency. Strangely, the biggest questions of all revolve around their star point guard Trae Young, who has earned quite a bit of heat for his play this past season.
As many wonder if Young is a true superstar player, doubts continue to surface that he is fully committed to the Hawks. In fact, according to some league executives, it’s only a matter of time before Trae forces his way out like James Harden and Ben Simmons did.
“The Hawks’ payroll isn’t sustainable based on market and production level,” wrote Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report. “Competing executives don’t believe the team will move Trae Young this offseason, though some anticipate the guard may eventually push for a trade.”

Quin Snyder has only been on the job for a couple of months, and one has to think that the Hawks will give him a chance to make things work before trading Trae.
But if the Hawks fail to show meaningful progress next season, it could be the final nail in the coffin for the Trae Young era in the Southeast.
Will Trae Young Be Traded?
Drafted 5th overall in the 2018 draft, Trae was believed to be a star from day one, and he has shown flashes of his potential before. Sadly, it hasn’t come together in a meaningful way for Atlanta, and it could lead to some major changes.
“Me, I’m not worried about that. I’m gonna let my game play,” said the star point guard. “After the season, whatever happens, happens. I mean, I’m focused on the next task at hand. I can’t worry about the outside noise or whatever fake stories come out, or what’s true, whatever.”
After signing a 5 year, $173 million extension in 2021, Trae was entrusted to be the face and leader of the Hawks. So far, he has done very little with that responsibility despite some spectacular moments.
