The Denver Nuggets became champions for the first time in their history last night with a 4-1 NBA Finals series win over the Miami Heat. Nikola Jokic was crowned Finals MVP as the Nuggets breezed through the playoffs and faced minimal challenges.
The Nuggets had some tough seasons due to injury, which saw them regularly get eliminated in the first and second rounds. Jokic reflected on his success after the championship win, telling fans that there are no shortcuts to success.
“If you want to be successful, you need to be bad, then you need to be good. Then when you’re good, you need to fail. Then when you fail, you’re going to figure it out… There are no shortcuts. It’s a journey.”

Jokic ultimately averaged 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 9.5 assists in a dominant playoff run where no team had an answer for him.
The big-heavy Timberwolves couldn’t use either Rudy Gobert or Karl-Anthony Towns to stop Jokic, the Suns had Deandre Ayton, who was completely ineffective against Jokic, and finally, Jokic dispatched Anthony Davis and the Lakers with ease. He had a historic playoff run where he worked for every bit of success he earned.
Nikola Jokic Looking To Run It Back
Jokic is counting the days until the Nuggets’ championship parade so he can go back home to Serbia. After he gets a chance to unwind this offseason, the center will likely come into next season motivated to win another title. Michael Malone openly said that they want the team to be a dynasty, and the team will likely push toward that goal.
The Nuggets have a roster that is in their prime, with none of their main rotation players having turned 30 years old. Jamal Murray is 26, Aaron Gordon is 27, Michael Porter Jr. is 24, and Jokic is the oldest of this core at 28.
They can build around these four key pieces and hope for more success in the following seasons as they’re still getting better.
