Former NBA star Reggie Miller reveals how veteran point guard Chris Paul could benefit the Los Angeles Lakers in the upcoming season.

Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, “You just want someone to stabilize and not beat you, make a timely wide-open shot, don’t turn the ball over, and be steady,” Miller said.

“He wouldn’t be one of those guys that are counted on to win games. He’ll be counted on not to lose games for you, I think. And unless at the end of the day, when healthy, he is an unbelievable floor general. He understands how to run a team. He is not going to hurt you.”

He further added that he loved to see Paul in LA. “I would love to see him with the Los Angeles Lakers,” Miller remarked. “He’s a free agent, an unrestricted free agent. I know his family, they still live in the Calabasas area. I think he would be a great fit for them. They had point guard woes down the stretch, as we saw with D’Angelo Russell. I would love to see Chris Paul in the Lakers uniform playing alongside his good friend LeBron James.”

Much of the focus for the Lakers in the playoffs was on D’Angelo Russell, who despite being impressive in the regular season iced out in the playoffs averaging just 6.3 points and 3.5 assists per game. With the guard likely to be traded, Paul is now looked at as one of the bonafide replacements.

In what was yet another injury-riddled season, Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG. While his experience and skills are unmatched, his health will be a major concern for the Lakers if they indeed decide to add him to their ranks.

Adrian Wojnarowski Believes The Suns Are Still Trying To Keep Chris Paul

Chris Paul might not be on the trade block for long. Earlier, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said that the Phoenix Suns were still trying to keep the veteran in their fold.

“I’m told that the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul had a series of conversations today to start discussing his future in Phoneix, including the possibility that the team could use the waive-and-stretch provision on his contract prior to the June 28th date to guarantee his contract… Chris Paul wants to remain with the Suns and he wants to be back with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.”

“Right now, the Suns are looking at a lot of alternatives, including trade possibilities. They’re going to have talks about Deandre Ayton, so can they move money around to keep Chris Paul on the roster? Or find a trade where they can build out their depth… Right now, Phoenix would like to find a way to financially keep Chris Paul on this roster.”

Right now, there is no telling where Paul will be on opening night. But there surely is no dearth of suitors for the experienced guard.
