Skip Bayless was in no mood to celebrate Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets’ maiden NBA championship, instead, he compared the Finals MVP to Joel Embiid citing that the latter was ahead of Jokic.
“To me, Joel Embiid is a more dominating, intimidating basketball player than Nikola Jokic is,” Bayless said on the latest episode of Undisputed. “Because Joel’s touch from 12, 14, 16 feet is just absolutely lethal. He is a 7’1″ pure jump shooter. It’s the pure jump shot I’ve ever seen. Joker doesn’t really have a jump shot, he has a set shot that he can shoot.”

Bayless’ criticism comes as a shocker given that Jokic’s achievements in the playoffs have been spectacular. He currently leads all players in points, rebounds, and assists aspects in addition to displaying his remarkable leadership and versatility. And while Embiid did have an impressive run this season, it was Jokic who edged him out.
It’s no secret that Bayless has hot takes on players before, but this was perplexing given that he’s followed Jokic’s games closely. And if he’s talking about a shot that sets the two apart, the Serbian has still managed to make things work for him, and successfully at that.
Nuggets Star Michael Porter Jr. Declares Nikola Jokic As The Best Big Man Ever
To supplement the theory of why Bayless is wrong, Michael Porter Jr.’s words of calling Jokic the best big make perfect sense.
“This was a historic run,” Porter said. “I don’t know how you could say he’s not the best big man ever really. He’s one of the all-time great basketball players, I don’t care what anyone says. I think he’s one of the all-time best players to ever play this game, so to be on his team, he makes it easy for the rest of us.”
That he makes it easy for the team shows how versatile Jokic is. He is more of a guard/center who has immense game awareness, IQ, and playmaking acumen. There’s surely no disrespect to Embiid, who is stellar in his own right, but perhaps Bayless could rethink his thoughts on Jokic’s abilities.
