Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from the NBA on May 22, 2023. Since then, Melo has been sharing interesting stories about his career.

Among them is how Anthony learned never to talk trash against Michael Jordan. Moreover, Melo believes it’s impossible to win an argument against Jordan because he always pulls the ring card on players.

“You cannot argue with that man, it’s impossible,” Melo said on the Millon Dollaz Worth of Game. “He knows a certain of us you know that we go back at him like we’ll talk our s**t to him. But then he gets to start talking about winning and rings and s**t. That’s his defense mechanism.”

Michael Jordan won six NBA Championships during his career and flaunts a spotless 6-0 record in the finals. Winning six rings is part of what made Jordan the GOAT in most people’s eyes.

It’s no surprise that MJ uses those titles as his defensive mechanism against people, especially against someone like Carmelo Anthony, who failed to win an NBA Championship during his career.

Carmelo Anthony Is At Peace With Not Winning An NBA Championship In His Career

Carmelo Anthony is regarded as one of the best scorers to ever play in the NBA. He finished his career with 22.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 2.7 APG. Melo also won the 2012-13 NBA scoring title, among other accolades in his career.

Unfortunately, Anthony failed to win the ultimate prize – an NBA Championship. However, the former third-overall pick is at peace with it.

“I’m at peace. That doesn’t bother me no more; that idea that you’re a loser if you don’t win a championship,” Anthony said. “For me, I’ve won. I won back in 2003, the night I shook David Stern’s hand on that stage. I made it out of Red Hook.”

Melo added: “I’ve won at life. The ring is the only thing I didn’t get. It would’ve been a great accomplishment, but I don’t regret it, because I feel like I did everything I could to get it.”

Carmelo will certainly be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in the future. It’s great that he’s fine with retiring without a championship ring. After all, he will still be remembered as one of the best scorers of this generation for years to come.
