The NBA Finals is the ultimate stage for competition, as the two best teams in the league lock horns to see who will take home the Larry O’Brien trophy. Legends are made in the NBA Finals, and they need to stack up their legendary moments.

Allen Iverson has one of the greatest clips in Finals history of him stepping over Tyronn Lue in the only game the Lakers lost in their run to the 2001 Championship. A Philly fan met AI at a meet-and-greet and requested the former MVP to step over him.

Lue and Iverson have discussed that moment multiple times over their careers. Lue had openly said that the step-over led to him actually becoming a known NBA player in the eyes of casual fans, while Iverson maintains that he was embarrassed by the moment after it took place. Regardless, over the course of a basketball game, players will get crossed over or dunked on. There is no shame in being crossed up by Allen Iverson, and Lue never acts upset over his role in this iconic moment.

Allen Iverson’s Incredible 2001 Finals Run

The 2000-01 season was easily the greatest season in Iverson’s career, as he became the smallest player in league history to win MVP. He then led a very poor 76ers roster all the way to the Finals and stole one game from the Lakers, who had gone 11-0 in their run through the Western Conference. They ended that playoff run 15-1, with Iverson leading Philly to a stunning Game 1 win in LA behind a 48-point night.

Iverson believes his Game 1 performance ultimately woke Shaquille O’Neal up, which led to the 76ers being dominated for the next four games. AI also said the 76ers’ strategy of slowing down Kobe Bryant relied on them praying he missed shots

Iverson took his Sixers into a David vs. Goliath matchup and managed to get some good shots in before falling to inevitable defeat. He averaged 35.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in the Finals and had his iconic step-over moment with Ty Lue.
