The Golden State Warriors have been the most successful team in the NBA over the last decade and Steve Kerr taking over as head coach in 2014 has been a big reason for it.
He led them to three championships in his first four seasons and when Draymond Green was getting hyped at one point over those three rings, Kerr reminded him he has won eight.
“I was speaking on this list of guys who’s won all the championships in our lifetime,” Green said on The Draymond Green Show. “You’re right at the top of that list with nine championships. I know a couple of years ago, I was talking about championships like, ‘Wow we have three,’ and you were like, ‘You guys got three, I got eight,’ and you kept that right at the top.”
Kerr flexed his rings on the Dubs 😂💍

Green had previously listed out the players and coaches who were responsible for all the championships in his lifetime, which he was referring to here. Kerr won four titles in a row as a player from 1996 to 1999, with the first three coming when he was part of the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan. He then left the Bulls for the San Antonio Spurs in 1998 and won in his first season with them.
He would win another title with the Spurs in his final season in the NBA in 2002-03 to bring his total to 5 championships as a player. He then won titles as head coach of the Warriors in 2015, 2017, 2018, and lastly in 2022.
Steve Kerr’s Future With The Warriors
All good things must come to an end and the Warriors dynasty isn’t too far away from its end. GM Bob Myers is stepping down while Green and Klay Thompson face uncertain futures. Green has a player option for next season while Thompson’s contract expires after next season.
Kerr’s contract is expiring after next season as well and he revealed during his exit interview that he hasn’t discussed an extension. There are rumblings regarding him leaving the Warriors and potentially becoming the head coach for the Spurs once Gregg Popovich decides to retire.
Kerr is a serial winner and he could be tempted by the opportunity to coach Victor Wembanyama and kickstart another dynasty in San Antonio. The Warriors would certainly be hoping that things don’t turn out that way.
