Nikola Jokic had a brilliant debut in the 2023 NBA Finals. The Joker recorded 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists in the 104-93 Game 1 win over the Miami Heat.

Jokic was undoubtedly the best player on the court. There are many things that he is capable of doing, but it seems like injecting his teammates with motivation is not one of them. The two-time NBA MVP denied being the vocal leader for the Denver Nuggets.

“I mean, no. We have veterans that are doing a really good job,” Jokic said. “If you listen to them, it’s really smart what they’re saying.”

Each player on the roster has a specific role. Most veteran players are given the responsibility of being vocal leaders for the team. Nikola Jokic believes in them and doesn’t interrupt them.

So far, it has been doing wonders for the Nuggets in the 2023 NBA playoffs. They currently hold a 1-0 lead in the finals and are just three wins away from winning the first title in franchise history.

Nikola Jokic’s Honest Answer About His Game 1 Performance In The 2023 NBA Finals

Nikola Jokic became only the second player in NBA history to record a triple-double in his NBA Finals. He joined Jason Kidd on the two-person list, who achieved this feat in the 2002 NBA Finals.

Jokic was asked about his honest opinion on the phenomenal performance during the postgame conference. Jokic gave a stoic answer to the question.

“The most important thing is to win a game, and I’m trying to win a game in any possible way. I don’t need to shoot, and I know I don’t need to score to affect the game. I think I did a good job today. Everybody contributed today. AG, Jamal, Mike, KCP, and everybody who played. It’s a great win for us.”

It was a team effort to get the Game 1 victory, but Nikola Jokic was undoubtedly the star of the show. If the Joker can continue to play at this level, it won’t be a surprise if the Nuggets become the champions of the league.
