The Denver Nuggets ran out to a Game 1 win in the NBA Finals by beating the Miami Heat 93-104 at home to take a 1-0 lead.

Nikola Jokic became the second player in NBA history to notch a triple-double in their Finals debut. He got honest about his play style in his post-game interview.

“The most important thing is to win a game and I’m trying to win a game in any possible way. I don’t need to shoot and I know I don’t need to score to affect the game. I think I did a good job today. Everybody contributed today. AG, Jamal, Mike, KCP, and everybody who played. It’s a great win for us.”

The Nuggets saw great performances across their team tonight. Jamal Murray had a double-double with 26 points and 10 assists. Aaron Gordon played sensational defense on Jimmy Butler while also getting 16 points. Michael Porter Jr. had 14 points, while KCP had 7 points with solid defense.

Keys To Success For Miami In Game 2

The Miami Heat defended as well as they could’ve hoped, forcing the Nuggets to shoot under 30% from the three-point line on the night. It’ll be hard for them to find defensive improvement beyond that, but they definitely need more offense. Jimmy Butler couldn’t take over the game with his scoring, while reliable role-players Max Strus and Caleb Martin combined to shoot 1/17 from the field.

Bam Adebayo had one of his best individual games of the playoffs, dominating inside and scoring 26 points with 13 rebounds. Haywood Highsmith may get a lot more playing time in Game 2 after his 18-point cameo led to the Heat cutting a 20-point deficit into a 10-point one. It was close, but not nearly enough for the win.

Miami will prioritize getting a Game 2 win and going back to their city with the series tied.
