The Los Angeles Lakers made it clear that Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura’s impactful performances have made them the team’s top priority in the summer.

The Athletic’s Jovan Buha outlined it in his latest saying, “Assuming James remains a Laker and they follow Pelinka’s intentions to keep the current team together, restricted free agents Reaves and Hachimura are the Lakers’ top priorities this offseason.”

“Los Angeles can match any outside offer either player receives from another team to retain them. The Lakers intend to keep both players this summer, even if it means matching their respective maximum offer sheets, according to multiple team sources who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.”

Both Reaves and Hachimura were pivotal for LA in the postseason. The latter was traded to the Lakers ahead of the deadline, giving them a boost on both ends of the floor, and his impact off the bench has worked in the Lakers’ favor.

The latter already made his feelings for the Lakers pretty clear. He called the experience the best of his life, and that would mean that he would be eager to don the Lakers jersey again in the upcoming season.

The Lakers Will Surely Benefit From Retaining Rui Hachimura And Austin Reaves

Given the duo’s ability to play seamlessly on both ends of the floor, and their fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers will believe that Reaves and Hachimura are assets who can make the side a champion-level team once they find a third superstar.

It also makes sense, given that if they manage to land Kyrie Irving in their ranks, Reaves and Hachimura off the bench would provide a sense of depth and stability that LA would deplete if they are indeed serious about getting Irving. The LA summer will be interesting, and only time will tell if they can indeed get all that they want without compromising too much on the roster structure.
