In the aftermath of another spectacular season, LeBron James finds himself considering retirement for the first time in his career. Although this season did not end in a title, it would be a fitting ending for James, who is sure to go down as one of the  All-Time greatest players ever. Where exactly LeBron ranks among the legends, however, has always been a matter of great debate and the conversation is heating up now with the end in sight.

In one viral video, Complex asked random city folk if James deserves the title of the greatest of All-Time if he retired today. Some of the answers might surprise you.

“He’s almost 40. Some of y’all 23 and can’t dribble a ball without getting out of breath,” said one fan. “Y’all better get it together and respect that man. Been over 20 years. What you been doing for 20 years?”

The case for LeBron is as strong as ever, but it’s clear that not everybody agrees on putting him over MJ.

“He’s more like the sheep. Michael Jordan will always be the GOAT.”

This debate is a tale as old as time itself and it seems that fans will never come to a consensus on the ultimate GOAT.  Even if LeBron is able to capture another championship, he will never be able to replicate MJ’s 6-0 Finals record.

Can LeBron Ever Surpass MJ?

It’s no secret that LeBron views himself as the greatest player ever, and it’s not without merit. But when it comes to Jordan, his teams were practically unbeatable in the playoffs and he always closed the deal when his team had a chance.

You know, it’s a funny thing, you can’t take anything away from either player,” Jackson said on Stacey King’s Gimme The Hot Sauce podcast. “You can only turn to the fact that Michael went to the Finals six times and won six championships. And it’s kind of funny, how many 7 games in the Finals series did Michael have to go to? He never did, it never happened. We won in six at the most.”

In the end, as much as LeBron deserved to be celebrated for all that he has done, it’s far from a unanimous decision that he’s the GOAT of basketball. The truth is, no matter what LeBron does from here on out, Jordan will always be part of the conversation.
