After a trip to the NBA Finals last June, the Boston Celtics cemented themselves as a title contender in the minds of many fans and experts. But after a hot start to this season that saw them storm through the rest of the NBA, the Celtics have struggled to maintain consistency on both ends of the floor.

Now, with the Cs on the verge of being swept, some real questions are hanging in the balance for this team as they consider their future. According to what one NBA source told Kevin O’Connor, this group never really liked each other anyway.

“This is a Celtics team that has had chemistry issues in the past. They got through it, they got better, but I’ve had a source tell me in the past week that this Celtics team feels like a group that’s tired of fake liking each other. They’ve been around each other forever… and they’ve got to shake things up on different levels.”

While nobody can deny the potential of the Tatum and Brown duo, there are some fundamental flaws in their partnership that have been exposed in the postseason. Down the stretch of these games, Tatum and Brown are often fighting for control, and it leaves the Celtics without a solid identity.

Can The Tatum And Brown Duo Win A Title Together?

While we can point fingers at Joe Mazzulla or any one of the supporting cast members, the blame ultimately falls on the two stars. As the co-leaders of the Celtics, Tatum, and Brown are letting the whole city down, and many are wondering if their relationship can ever recover.

“I think the problem is, they’re just a bunch of nice guys who are really good at basketball. They don’t have that Jimmy Butler dog,” said Charles Barkley. “They haven’t won the big one either because they’re missing that. Jayson Tatum is a great player, and Jaylen Brown is a great player. They’re just nice guys. Jimmy Butler don’t have their talent but let me tell you something, you want Jimmy Butler in that foxhole.”

Obviously, Brad Stevens is unlikely to green-light splitting the Tatum and Brown duo, but perhaps now it’s at least worth consideration, given how things played out this season.

If not, Boston could be in danger of falling into an endless cycle of mediocrity.
