Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has had a lot of success as a player. With four NBA championships to his name, he is a certified legend of the game. But the superstar has already set his sights on the future after retirement. Showing an inclination to pursue Michael Jordan‘s approach, Curry pondered the possibility of team ownership in a recent interview with CNBC Sport.

While discussing his plans of following Jordan’s footsteps on CNBC’s TV production of “Curry Inc.: The Business of Stephen Curry”, the 37-year-old said, “He might be the only one in our generation who has sat in that seat and done it that way.”

“The idea of being a part of an ownership group and the right opportunity that allows me to have an impact on how a franchise should be operated — how you’re going after true winning, like we’ve done here with the Warriors — that’s something I’m excited about pursuing,” added the Warriors star.

“It’s interesting. Obviously, as an active player, you can’t participate in that level until you’re done. So you’ll see me in the seat somewhere down the road.”

Team ownership is certainly not for the faint of heart. Jordan’s experience with being a franchise owner started with the Washington Wizards. Although he gave that up to return to the court for the team he previously owned, he eventually transitioned by buying a minority stake in the Charlotte Hornets.

The NBA legend would go on to sell his stake in the Hornets in due time. Needless to say, he walked away with a sizeable profit, adding to his already impressive net worth.

Curry’s idea of ownership is heavily inspired by his own experience with the Warriors franchise. Given that he has expanded his portfolio as CEO of Thirty Ink, a company linked with Unanimous Media, Gentleman’s Cut bourbon, and 7k media consultancy, the 37-year-old is already on the right track.

Stephen Curry To Consider Career In Broadcasting Post-Retirement

Among Curry’s plans after retirement, the Warriors star has also shown an inclination to the broadcasting space, although he is still hesitant about it at the moment.

“I would be more patient,” he said, taking into consideration his teammate, Draymond Green, and his position in the space. “I think about what would be the right opportunity for me, ’cause anything that I do, I want to be all in on it. Right now, just doing your homework on the different pathways and options that might be available.”

The 37-year-old has already made his debut in front of the camera, featuring appearances in projects like Peacock’s “Mr. Throwback”, as well as Apple TV+’s “Stephen Curry: Underrated”.

With a cultivated onscreen personality that could draw in the viewers and a knowledge of the game that transcends the boundaries of the court, Curry could prove to be a very competent broadcaster.
