With each passing season, it’s getting abundantly clear that James Harden is no longer the player that he once was.
NBA analyst Colin Cowherd called him a glorified role player last month for his 8-point Game 2 performance against the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs. Now, Cowherd has once again ripped apart Harden’s status as a superstar in the league after a 9-point Game 7 performance vs. the Boston Celtics.
“We’ve been pretending that we trust Harden in the playoffs for a decade. … In the NBA, because so much of the league is optics and aesthetics, if we like your style, we’ll keep believing you’ll deliver for us like Westbrook’s not a playoff guy, Harden’s not a playoff guy. And I said this a month ago, he’s now kind of a role player. And what do role players do like Jordan Poole? Great night, bad night. Good night, bad night. Bad night, bad night. That’s a role player.
“You know AD, LeBron, Steph may pull back, but you don’t get horrendous performances. You do for a role player. And that’s what Harden is. I think it’s time to move on from James Harden.”
James Harden recorded just 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists in the ever-so-important Game 7 against the Celtics. Harden’s poor performance was a crucial factor in the 76ers’ 88-112 defeat.
Stephen A. Smith Wants James Harden To Shave His Beard
The Beard’s awful Game 7 performance wasn’t well received by NBA critics. After all, he is expected to put up superstar numbers in the postseason.
NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith was so frustrated with Harden’s performance that he urged him to shave his beard to hide his identity.
“James Harden was so awful, so bad, he should actually shave his beard so he can hide his identity,” Smith blasted Harden. “That’s how bad he was. It was really, really bad. I say that in all seriousness. I’m not joking. I worked in Philadelphia for 17 years, it was so bad, I’m telling you right now, it would be difficult for him to walk the streets. You don’t do what you saw him do on Sunday afternoon in a Game 7.”
If Harden decides to stay with the 76ers this offseason, the expectations will be at an all-time high for him. Time after time, the former MVP has failed to carry his team to a deep playoff run.
Keeping that in mind, if Harden fails again next season, it will be hard for fans to protect his superstar status.
