After Ja Morant’s latest Instagram Live incident, fans are still in shock over his decision-making and the wild turn his career has taken given where he was just a year ago. But really, Ja is just one of several young superstars to be going through a rough time right now. Another one is the guy who was picked one spot above him.

In New Orleans, Zion Williamson is more of a myth than a player at this point, as injuries continue to hold him back from reaching his true potential. Between him and Ja, you can’t blame fans for being worried about the future of the league and the next generation of basketball stars. Speaking on NBA Countdown after Ja’s latest drama, Stephen A. Smith could hardly contain his disappointment at how things are playing out.

“It’s really hard to put this into words, but I’m gonna try. As you know I’m a Knicks fan so I talk a lot about RJ Barrett. Between Zion Williamson’s body and Ja Morant’s stupidity, RJ Barrett might end up being the best pick.”

Morant was picked 2nd overall in the 2019 Draft, and he was quick to flash his superstar potential. In just three years in the NBA, the Grizzlies point guard elevated into a truly unstoppable force and is already a 2x All-Star, an All-NBA player, and widely considered one of the best guards in the game.

Sadly, his lack of maturity has manifested into a number of questionable moves, which now include two separate instances of flashing a firearm on social media.

One has to wonder what Morant’s ultimate goal is, and whether or not he even cares about keeping up his image as a role model and one of the faces of the NBA.

What’s Next For Morant And The Grizzlies?

At this point, it’s hard to say where the Grizzlies go from here. Thanks to a team announcement, we know that Morant is fully suspended from team activities, but that doesn’t really mean too much since the Grizzlies don’t play another game until October.

Unless Ja can grow up and understand that flashing his gun for all the world to see is not a good move, he will struggle to earn the respect of his peers and the NBA community. Clearly, Stephen A. Smith has already changed his perception of what kind of leader Ja Morant really is.
