With the Memphis Grizzlies out of the playoffs and Dillon Brooks officially exiled from the team, it appears all his trash-talking and underwhelming play has finally caught up with him. And while Brooks is likely to land a new NBA gig before the end of the summer, it hasn’t stopped the masses from joking about the end of his playing career.
For Lakers guard Dennis Schroder, he witnessed Brooks’ downfall firsthand and also watched as the internet mocked his performance in the playoffs. As he explained to Adin Ross in a video call, the internet can be a ruthless place, but it is often the worst for people who don’t live up to their own words.
“The internet is crazy, man. I’m not gonna lie. Like I said when you shoot against the best player in the world, the GOAT of all time, and you don’t handle it the right way, and you lose as well, then people like you and everybody who was out there is gonna say ‘go back to China’ or ‘play in China next year because you’re terrible.'”

Brooks was an absolute monster defensively, and much of os his effectiveness involved intimidation tactics in getting under the opponents’ skin. Unfortunately, once Brooks tried this strategy on LeBron James, he was exposed to a ridiculous degree and he just couldn’t make enough shots to justify keeping him on the floor.
Now, his very NBA future is in question as he looks to secure his next NBA contract.
Why Are The Grizzlies Letting Brooks Walk?
Unless the Grizzlies find someone to replace Brooks defensively, they are going to have to live with taking a few steps back on defense. So for a Grizzlies team that desperately needs leadership and veteran maturity in the locker room, keeping Dillon around just wasn’t worth the risk.
“The Memphis Grizzlies have informed pending unrestricted free agent Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances,” sources told The Athletic. “After his tumultuous end to the season, Brooks was told about the Grizzlies‘ decision to move on in exit meetings with team officials in recent days, those sources said. Memphis and Brooks discussed in exit meetings that it’s best for both sides to have a fresh start,” sources added.
We will see Dillon again next season, but it remains unknown which team will sign him by the time it’s all said and done.
Hopefully, at the very least, he’s learned from this experience and will go into next season with a clean slate and a fresh perspective on his role and limitations as a basketball player.
