Phil Jackson certainly knew how to handle his players during games. The Zen Master recently revealed why he never used to yell at his players from the sidelines in an episode of ‘Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin.’
“People always ask me why aren’t you up and about. Like a lot of coaches are up and down the floor and yelling,” Jackson said. “You kind of learn that if you teach and coach, you trust the players to do what’s supposed to be done on the floor, then you can sit back and join that feeling that they are experiencing out there. You’ll know the time when the time is right to say, ‘Timeout, let’s get together and talk.’ So it was a vicarious experience not playing, not in the band, but still participating in a different way.”

Over the course of his career, Phil Jackson coached several players. So one would wonder how many players are still in touch with the Zen Master, right?
Well, Jackson revealed that he doesn’t stay in touch with his former players. The reason? He’s not a phone guy.
“I don’t. I’m not a phone guy. I kind of left guys alone and never kind of around on their case. When I get them on the court or get them in the film room or whatever, my office. I really liked to have conversations, I haven’t chased down any players.”
Jackson is definitely old-school in this regard. It seems that if any former player wants to reach out to Phil, they would have to track him down, as the NBA legend is not a fan of mobile phones.
