Kawhi Leonard has recently become one of the main topics of conversation in the NBA for all the wrong reasons. The Los Angeles Clippers looked like they might win against the Phoenix Suns despite not having Paul George, but Kawhi Leonard getting injured has effectively ended that series.

Kawhi Leonard‘s inability to play regularly for the Los Angeles Clippers is a problem that can no longer be ignored. And that’s not all, Colin Cowherd recently said that he has been told that Leonard doesn’t interact with his teammates and coaches as he should.

“In two seasons, Kawhi Leonard has played 27 home games,” Colin Cowherd said. “Folks, after a while if you’re getting the understudy on Broadway, three of 4 nights, the understudy becomes the star, not the star. He’s just not available, he’s odd, he’s not verbal, he doesn’t communicate, I’ve been told, with coaches or players. This is who he is.”

He went on to say that it’s time for the Clippers to cut their losses and move on from Kawhi Leonard. The team acquired Kawhi and Paul George in 2019, with Finals runs and championships as the expectation, but they’ve been to just one Western Conference Finals in that time. PG and Leonard, in particular, have gotten injured at the most crucial times, and it has cost the team in a big way.

Stephen A. Smith Went A Step Further And Said Kawhi Leonard Should Retire

Injuries cannot be controlled, sometimes, the body is not able to handle the strain of playing professional basketball. And Kawhi Leonard has played just 104 of the last 238 games for the Los Angeles Clippers in the regular season. For Stephen A. Smith, evidence like this is enough to say that Kawhi should consider retirement.

“I just have to say it, I’m sick of Kawhi Leonard. Seriously, why don’t you just retire? I mean, the dude blackmails the Clippers into moving heaven and earth to get Paul George because he was threatening to go to the Lakers. This brother has missed so many damn games it don’t make any sense. He’s missed more than 50% of his games.”

This might be a bit of a harsh take, but it is clear that the media narrative is turning against Kawhi Leonard. He has won two NBA championships and two Finals MVPs in his career, but his past success no longer seems to be working in his favor in these conversations. It’ll be interesting to see if the Clippers pull any drastic moves should they lose against the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
