Anthony Davis hasn’t quite been his usual dominant self in the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.

He struggled offensively again in Game 4 and NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Davis isn’t quite right due to a right hip issue. After the game, AD was asked about the injury and revealed he has been dealing with it for over a week now.

“It’s been bothering me for probably like a week-and-a-half now,” Davis said. “But there’s no way I was coming out. Just trying to give what I could to the team. I’ll be fine, though. We do what we’re supposed to do Wednesday, then I get a couple (of) days to let it calm down and get back to normal. But take care of it tonight, tomorrow, and get ready for Wednesday’s game.”

(starts at 2:14 mark):

The good news is that it isn’t a serious injury and the Lakers will be hoping they can wrap up this series on Wednesday so that he can get some more rest. Davis had just 12 points here on 4-13 shooting from the field, but he did haul in 11 rebounds and block four shots. His offense seems to be adversely affected by the hip, but he is managing to contribute in other ways to make up for it.

Anthony Davis’ Impact On This Series

With the Grizzlies missing Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke, AD was expected to dominate in this series but he hasn’t done that on the offensive end. He has averaged 19.5 PPG on just 42.6% shooting from the field but despite that, he has still managed to have a big impact on this series.

He ranks first in the league for BPG in these playoffs at 4.5 a game and ranks third for RPG with 12.3. After Game 3, Davis became the first Lakers player since Shaquille O’Neal, to record 15 blocks over a three-game period. He has been excellent on defense and for all of those offensive struggles, is currently leading both teams in plus-minus in this series at +32, as per StatMuse. Once that hip issue settles down, we might just see the best version of Davis we have ever seen, and that is saying something.
