Ja Morant Fears Dillon Brooks Might Get Suspended After His Game 3 Ejection

Ja Morant says it's a strong possibility that Dillon Brooks could be suspended for Game 4 following his ejection in Game 3 against the Lakers.

Ja Morant was tossed out of Game 3 of the Lakers vs. Grizzlies series after he hit LeBron James in the groin during the game. Brooks has a history of making borderline dirty plays, which has led to a new concern for his team.

Draymond Green got suspended for a game against the Sacramento Kings thanks to his chequered past in terms of dirty plays. And now Ja Morant thinks that Dillon Brooks might earn himself a suspension for Game 4, thanks to the same reason.

“With how they treat Dillon, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he is,” Ja Morant said about a potential Game 4 suspension for Brooks. “He was ejected because of past ejections that were made in games before. If you look at the play, he was reaching for the ball on the crossover, Bron just went behind the back. He got somewhere, it’s tough for a man. Flagrant 1? Okay. Ejection? I don’t agree with it at all.”

(starts at 3:57 minutes)

These are strong words from Ja Morant, but it’s hard not to feel like Dillon Brooks has made this situation more difficult for himself than it needs to be. He is quick to antagonize referees as well as his opponents, so it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Outside of the ejection, Dillon Brooks was disappointing in terms of his performance as well. He managed just seven points, making only three of the 13 shots he attempted on the night. He also couldn’t stop the Lakers from scoring in the first quarter, with them gaining an insane 26-point lead in the first 12 minutes.

The Memphis Grizzlies Cannot Afford To Lose The Next Game

Game 4 has suddenly become extremely crucial for the Memphis Grizzlies, they cannot afford to lose. The team needs to win to stay in the series, as a 3-1 deficit against LeBron James and Anthony Davis doesn’t seem very surmountable. Not having Dillon Brooks could make a huge difference; pest or not, he is a valuable presence on the floor.

Ja Morant stepped up in Game 3, especially in the 4th quarter, and the Grizzlies now need him to do it again in the next game. He was one rebound away from a 45-point, 13-assist triple-double, which is just incredible. If Brooks misses the next game, another herculean effort like this from Morant will become a necessity.
