Former Lakers guard Patrick Beverley has been passed around between several different teams over the years, but he’ll only be looking for one thing when he hits free agency this summer: money.
After proving to be a valuable defensive player and locker-room leader, Beverley has raised his worth and is looking to get rewarded with a deal hovering around $15 million per year.
“My game hasn’t dropped, so I don’t think my number that I make this year should drop,” Beverley said on his podcast. “I’m at 13 (million), but the money does go up, so my 13 this year would become 15 next year.”
At 34 years old, Beverley’s best days as a basketball player are already far behind him, but he showed that he’s still got something left in the tank after helping lead a late resurgence for the Bulls that gave them a chance to make the playoffs.
Recently, though, Beverley was making headlines for his role in a failed Lakers season.
How Much Was Bev To Blame For Struggles In LA?
We saw the Lakers get much better after their mid-season trades, and it doesn’t take a genius to see why. Despite what Beverley brings on the defensive end, his lack of a perimeter game makes him a liability offensively, and the Lakers had trouble surviving the lack of spacing he caused.
Of course, if you ask Beverley himself, he’ll tell you the team was never fully bought-in on defense.
“Yeah, we should do this on defense… ‘Nah we cool, we cool… Nah we gotta rotate’… Bron what you mean we gotta rotate, you ain’t even playing,” said Beverley on the Lakers. “They don’t listen to me…. You gotta go through the first-year coach, the LeBron, the AD, the Russ, then it get to me. You don’t hear my sh*t the way you should hear my sh*t… Due to circumstances, whoever on the team, your voice isn’t heard, what you saying doesn’t echo. Because we had a nice f**king team in LA.”
Only time will tell how much Beverley will sign for this offseason, but a team is bound to pick him up eventually just due to the energy he brings every game.
Unfortunately for Bev, however, $15 million might be too much to ask for if you’re a non-shooter in a shooter’s league.
