The first round of the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs sees the Phoenix Suns take on the Los Angeles Clippers, and it will feature a clash between two of the greatest point guards in modern NBA history.

Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook have both made their mark on the NBA and are in search of their first title. With them facing off, Shannon Sharpe claimed that Westbrook has had a better career than Paul, and NBA fans debated on the topic.

A fan agreed with Sharpe, pointing to Westbrook’s MVP, two scoring titles, and his NBA record 198 triple-doubles.

Facts.. MVP, 2 scoring titles and triple double king

Another fan, however, thinks Paul has had a greater impact on winning and hence has had the better career.

Russell Westbrook has more career accolades.

Chris Paul has had a greater impact on winning.

Since the purpose of basketball is to win, CP3 > Russ 🤷‍♂️

Westbrook shattering the triple-double record and making it to the NBA Finals once, the same as Paul, gives him the edge for one fan.

Agreed. He shattered an all time record with Triple Doubles and like CP3 also appeared in a NBA Finals

A fan believes that Paul is a better point guard than Russ, who is just a better athlete.

Chris Paul is the better PG
Russ just a better athlete and the fact he still wasn’t a better defender then Chris at they peaks give me CP3 Also this is a hypothetical but if you put Chris on all russ teams I believe Chris could have found his way to at least one chip

A fan thinks that Paul is a better player than Westbrook, but the latter has had a better career.

I think Paul is the better player but Westbrook has had the better career. Since neither have a ring atm Westbrook’s mvp > Paul’s accolades

There are arguments that you can make for both, with the MVP, two scoring titles, and the triple-double record being the case for Westbrook having a better career. There are quite a few areas though, where Paul has the edge over him.

CP3 has made 12 All-Star appearances to nine for Russ and has made the All-NBA First Team four times, while Westbrook has made it twice. Paul has also been named into one of the All-NBA teams on 11 occasions as compared to nine for Westbrook. CP3 also has made the All-Defensive First Team seven times and has nine All-Defensive Team appearances in total while Westbrook has never made it. He also has a 5-3 edge in assist titles and has led the league in steals six times, something Russ has never done.

Chris Paul Spoke About Winning A Championship With The Suns

Paul looked primed to finally get his hands on his first championship when the Suns went up 2-0 in the 2021 NBA Finals. The Milwaukee Bucks, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, managed to turn things around, though, as they won the next four games to leave Paul empty-handed again.

Last season seemingly presented another great chance, but the top-seeded Suns collapsed in Game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks in the Conference Semifinals. He now gets another good shot after the Suns traded for Kevin Durant, and Paul stated no one wants to win it more than he does. He is certainly one of the players under the most pressure this season, and if he doesn’t win it this year, you really wonder if it’ll ever happen.
