As much as he admires LeBron James, Shannon Sharpe has a limit when it comes to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar. Before making it to the NBA, LeBron was a football prospect too, but he decided to pursue a career in basketball.
While James has claimed he could have made it to the NFL, Shannon Sharpe doesn’t believe that LeBron could have been that great.
“Hell no! He don’t know how to get off press,” Sharpe said during an appearance on the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast. “They’re gonna press him. You’d be foolish not to press him. Because he’s gonna jump over top of you and catch it.”
Shannon has always defended LeBron James, especially against Skip Bayless on their Undisputed show. LeBron has done the same for Sharpe, even defending him after a heated altercation with the Memphis Grizzlies this season.
However, Sharpe knows how to differentiate things and he’s not giving flowers to LeBron just like that. He, out of most people, knows that the tight end position is a difficult one in the NFL. Nevertheless, not everybody thinks the same about the King.
LeBron James Received Support From Other NFL Legends
Another legendary tight end, Travis Kelce, once supported LeBron, saying he would have been a problem for rivals in the NFL. Deion Sanders also claimed that James could have had a career in the league, dismissing Kevin Durant’s chances in the process.
James once compared his style of play to Randy Moss, one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, so you know he was very confident in his talents. However, for others, including LeBron’s biggest defender, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar would have had a difficult time trying to be successful in the NFL.
Sharpe finished his honored career with 815 receptions for 10,060 yards and 62 TDs, recording three 1,000-yard seasons, becoming one of the best players in his position, as well as a 3x Super Bowl champion.
