Ja Morant is one of the most exciting young stars in the NBA with superstar potential. If he keeps bringing success to the Memphis Grizzlies, he’ll start establishing himself as a franchise and city legend.

Stephen A. Smith went on a rant on First Take, where he was dismayed at Memphis not showing the same love to Ja Morant that they do to Elvis, claiming Ja can replace Elvis as the face of Memphis.

(2:08) “This is the point I wanted to make because I’ve reiterated this on many occasions. Elvis is dead. God rest his soul. You ain’t been to Memphis, Molly. You ain’t been to Memphis. I’ve been to Memphis. They’ve got signs of Elvis. They got billboards of Elvis and Graceland. There should be billboards of Ja Morant. Elvis is dead, Kendrick Perkins. It’s over. God rest his soul. It’s about Ja Morant in Memphis.”

Ja Morant went from being criticized by everyone two weeks ago to people being upset that he’s not marketed enough in Memphis. While he could be appreciated more in the city, let him actually lead the franchise to a milestone before we compare the love he gets to Elvis.

How Far Can The Grizzlies Go This Season?

The Memphis Grizzlies could find themselves in the NBA Finals. They definitely have the talent to reach that in this year’s Western Conference, sitting as the 2nd seed currently. They’ll either have a 2022 rematch with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round or face the Los Angeles Lakers.

On paper, the Grizz shouldn’t settle for less than a Conference Finals appearance, but that may be challenging. Beating the Lakers in the first round and then beating the winner of the Kings vs. Warriors in the second round will not be easy. Morant has a solid squad with him that is one of the best defensive teams in the NBA and has some great shooters. Let’s see if they can put it together this season so Morant can take a step toward replacing Elvis.
