The NBA MVP race has been as close as we’ve ever seen in this modern era of the game. With cases to be made for both players, the award became a raging debate for weeks on end up until the end of the season.

Now, Joel Embiid has seemingly taken a massive lead both in the betting odds and the media ballot. In the latest Twitter map from BetOnline, it shows that fans, too, agree that Embiid is the frontrunner for MVP.

“A map put together by Betonline.ag based on geotagged Twitter data from the last month, including over 100,000 tweets about the 2023 MVP race, shows the Philadelphia 76ers center is the most popular pick to win the award in 32 states (via The Score).”

Embiid clearly got the majority of votes, with Nikola Jokic collecting the second-most, with states like Colorado, Washington, and Oklahoma all highlighted a dark blue.

As for Giannis, despite another dominant season from him and the Bucks, he came in a distant third, according to the fans, with just two states being credited to him.

This data isn’t particularly surprising for anyone who has paid attention this year, but it’s still interesting to see how big of a lead Embiid has taken in just a few weeks.

Joel Embiid Has The Strongest MVP Case This Season

Besides his role in leading an injury-riddled Sixers team to the third-best record in the East, Embiid had consistently outperformed his peers this season, including a dominant showing against Jokic earlier this season.

All in all, when you look at his body of work as a whole, his MVP case cannot be denied.

“I picked Joel Embiid because I feel like he’s been dominant all season long,” said Damian Lillard. “His team is winning. I feel like he could have won it one of the last two years but Jokic won it both times. And I just think because he’s been, to me, the most dominant player, he’s been carrying his team.”

While Nikola Jokic has also had an MVP-worthy campaign, it was always going to be hard to win it this year after winning the past two straight seasons. Now, it’s Embiid’s turn to get the nod and add another accolade to his trophy case.

Of course, the most important trophy of all has eluded him so far in his short career.
