The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors are both teams that are in contention for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, and both teams could end up winning the first round and getting deep in the playoffs even as a lower seed due to the talent on both rosters.
On a recent appearance on the show First Take, Stephen A. Smith claimed that the Warriors are more dangerous than the Los Angeles Lakers, noting that the team is more proven than the Lakers.
“When I think about the Warriors, I think about the postseason. I think about Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, the greatest shooting backcourt in the history of the game… They’re champions, they’re tested. When I think about the Lakers… I love the pickups, I love the fact they’re an elite defensive team. The only thing I can say about the Lakers is that they’re playing with house money.”
This reasoning from Stephen A. Smith makes some sense. The Warriors have a squad that mostly features players with championship experience, while the only two champions on the Los Angeles Lakers are LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Warriors are the better overall team as well, and they are a threat to win the title despite their struggles on the road this season. Of course, there is always a chance that the Los Angeles Lakers will surprise people, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
The Golden State Warriors Could Still Make A Run This Season
Even though the Warriors have dealt with some inconsistency this season, the talent on the roster suggests that they could still go deep in the playoffs. Previously, Stephen Curry stated that the Warriors can still make a championship run this season.
“This year we’ve had guys in a lot of different roles, some newcomers,” Curry said. “For us to be the champs and have to take everybody’s best shot all year, some self-inflicted wounds that we’ve had, games we should have won.
“With all that said, absolutely (we can make a run). I feel like we are a team that’s a force and when we’re locked in on the specific test of trying to beat a team four times in a playoff series – obviously we need to get there and finish this year strong and hopefully stay out of the play-in – that remains the same.”
It remains to be seen how well the Warriors do in the playoffs, but they have some advantages in play. Andrew Wiggins will return soon after an extended absence, and the full-strength Warriors can compete against any team in the Western Conference.
