Relations between Donald Trump and the NBA are rough now, to say the least, after his controversial term as President of the United States.

A lot of players were and continue to be quite vocal in their criticism of Trump, but it wasn’t always like this. A fan, in fact, found an old video of Trump shooting a free throw in Madison Square Garden, with some NBA stars alongside him.

Isiah Thomas, Penny Hardaway, and Jamal Crawford were present at the arena in what seemed to be a commercial of some sort. It is doubtful whether Trump actually managed to hit that free throw on the first try, but he certainly would claim that he did.

You can’t picture any scenario nowadays when an NBA player would want to be seen in a video alongside Trump. Things were different back then, though, as he used to be a fairly popular figure among almost everybody before he entered the world of politics.

Joe Biden Trolled Donald Trump When The Warriors Visited The White House

When Trump was the president, NBA teams had decided against visiting the White House after winning the title. After the Cleveland Cavaliers visited in 2016 when Barack Obama was the President, no NBA team had gone to the White House until 2021 when Joe Biden took over the office.

The Warriors had won titles in 2017 and 2018, and the likes of Stephen Curry had made it clear they didn’t want to go, which led to Trump withdrawing the invitation. After Golden State won again in 2022, they made the trip earlier this year, now that Trump was no longer around. Biden hilariously trolled him during the Warriors’ visit, saying they are always welcome in this White House. Trump could be back there soon, though, as he plans to run for Presidency again in 2024.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
