Aaron Gordon Claims No One Can Stop Nikola Jokic: “Defensive Player Of The Year, It Doesn’t Matter”

Aaron Gordon backs Nikola Jokic as being impossible to defend, even if the Defensive Player Of The Year is on him.

Nikola Jokic recently had a massive game against the Milwaukee Bucks in what proved to be a huge win for his team. Going up against Giannis Antetokounmpo and DPOY candidate Brook Lopez, Jokic had 31 points and 11 assists. And after the win, his teammate Aaron Gordon claimed that nobody can stop Jokic when he is cooking.

“Can’t nobody stop Joker, man,” Gordon said, as per the Denver Post. “I don’t care, Defensive Player of the Year. It doesn’t matter. And he was getting fouled. If you’re not fouling him, you’re not stopping him. And he was fouling him, and he was still getting buckets. They weren’t calling and-1s. He’s ridiculous.”

“His footwork, his touch around the rim, the way that he feels the defense and plays off of the defense, it’s incredible, levels ahead of anything I’ve ever seen.”

Nikola Jokic has fallen behind Joel Embiid in the MVP race, according to many people, but he continues to impress. The Denver Nuggets had a bad run of form, but the win against the Bucks was a statement victory, and they look set to end the season as the top seed in the Western Conference. Brook Lopez has been a Defensive Player Of The Year frontrunner all season, but Nikola Jokic did dominate him thoroughly.

NBA Analyst Explained Why Joel Embiid Is Better Than Nikola Jokic

Even though he has claimed he doesn’t care about it, Nikola Jokic’s season has been defined by MVP conversation. He has won the last two awards, but there is a strong faction that thinks he has been outplayed by Joel Embiid this season. And Jason Timpf, an NBA analyst, recently explained why the Sixers man is now ahead of Jokic in the discussion.

“Two months ago I would have told you that Jokic is better than Embiid. I think Embiid has proven over the course of the last two months that he is the better player. I think his ceiling [is higher] as an impactful shot-maker and a downhill force drawing fouls at the rim. On the defensive end of the floor just another stratosphere ahead of where Jokic is.”

Nikola Jokic has since played some eye-catching defense here and there, but overall, Embiid now seems to have the edge. As Aaron Gordon says, though, Nikola Jokic is on a level by himself on offense, and the best time for him to prove it will be when the regular season ends and the playoffs begin.
