Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is considered an elite scoring big man in the league, and he is also a great rim protector on the defensive end of the floor. There’s no doubt that he has a case for being the best center in the league.

The biggest competition for Joel Embiid when it comes to being the best center league is Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic. Many believe that Jokic’s offensive prowess makes him better than Joel Embiid. Recently, however, analyst Jason Timpf explained why Joel Embiid has proved that he’s better than Nikola Jokic.

“Two months ago I would have told you that Jokic is better than Embiid. I think Embiid has proven over the course of the last two months that he is the better player. I think his ceiling [is higher] as an impactful shot-maker and a downhill force drawing fouls at the rim. On the defensive end of the floor just another stratosphere ahead of where Jokic is.”

There is no doubt that this is a solid take, and Joel Embiid definitely has an argument over Nikola Jokic based on the gap between the two on the defensive end. With that being said, the majority of people definitely prefer Nikola Jokic based on the superstar’s offensive prowess and passing ability.

As of right now, Joel Embiid is averaging 33.4 PPG, 10.1 RPG, and 4.1 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. There is no doubt that he has been an MVP-level player this season, and it’ll be interesting to see if he gets the award.

Nikola Jokic Has A Lot Of Respect For Joel Embiid

Even though many fans often pit Joel Embiid against Nikola Jokic in their discussions, the duo have a healthy respect for one another. Previously, we saw Nikola Jokic praise Joel Embiid’s ability.

“He’s a great player, great. Like, for real, great, great player. He can do everything on the floor, who is controlling the game, who is in the conversation for MVP, and the best player in the league. He’s so dominant. … I like to play with the best.”

It is clear that Nikola Jokic has a high opinion of Joel Embiid, and this was far from the only time he has praised Embiid. Once, he even teased that the two could end up teaming up in the future.

Both Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid are MVP-level players who have their own strengths and weaknesses. While they will obviously always be compared to one another due to them being the best centers in this era of basketball, they should also be recognized individually for their greatness.
