In recent memory, we have seen a number of players start up their own podcasts and deliver their own takes about happenings in the NBA. This has been viewed as a good thing by many fans, as it allows them to hear about the NBA directly from players rather than go through the media.

However, it seems as though not everyone is on board with NBA players having podcasts. Recently, former Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings called out Draymond Green and Patrick Beverley for podcasting, noting that players with podcasts are having poor seasons or things aren’t “going their way.”

“I think every NBA player that has a podcast that is talking is karma,” Jennings stated. “If you look at Draymond and how the Warriors are playing, it’s just bad. Every player that’s talking on the mic… while they’re playing basketball is just karma. Patrick Beverley, all of them. They’re just having terrible seasons or it’s just not going their way… They just yapping, yapping, yapping. It’s like shut up and just play basketball!”

Though it is clear that Draymond Green and Patrick Beverley are currently on teams that are inconsistent, it is fair to say both have been solid on an individual level this year. In theory, podcasting shouldn’t affect their performance too much, as it is a relatively small time commitment for the players.

Celtics Coaches Listened To Draymond Green’s Podcast During The 2022 NBA Finals

Draymond Green’s podcast has rapidly risen in popularity since its inception, and there is no doubt that the forward’s takes on basketball are nuanced and well-informed. Some in the league even believe that listening to his podcast can get their team a competitive advantage against the Golden State Warriors. Previously, it was reported that Boston Celtics coaches were listening to Draymond Green’s podcast during the 2022 NBA Finals.

Teams in the NBA will do anything to win, and it is easy to see why the coaches did this. With that being said, we have never seen players really reveal the specifics of their team’s strategy for a matchup on their podcast, so any knowledge gained would likely be surface-level. In fact, Draymond Green even got annoyed when asked about whether his podcast gave away the team’s game plan, noting that he doesn’t really say anything different in the podcast than he does to the media.

The Golden State Warriors managed to win the championship in 2022, and Draymond Green was a huge part of that. Though it is clear that not everyone likes his podcasting, it is obvious that Draymond Green has shown that one can still podcast and be a high-level contributor on a winning team.
