After a turbulent season of drama and mayhem, the Los Angeles Lakers were on the brink of another lost season before Gm Rob Pelinka hit the reset button and made a series of trades at the deadline.

Now, even despite L.A.’s underwhelming record, Anthony Davis is confident that his current squad can make a serious run.

“I think we’ve established the team that we want to be,” Davis said, via ESPN. “It started from our defense, got back in a fight and still missing LeBron. We’ve jelled pretty quickly and are able to make some noise and have people notice us again. I just try to come out each game with a mindset of must-win, dominate, and the rest will take care of itself.”

This season, the Lakers are facing an uphill climb to the playoffs, thanks to their abysmal play at the start of the season.

But even if the Lakers fail to make the cut this time, Davis feels good about the future and what the team can be moving forward.

“If we actually have a full summer, full training camp, go through an entire season, who knows the position we’ll be in,” Davis said. “The team we have now, we feel like not only can we make noise this year, and I like our chance against anybody to be honest. You put anybody against us, I like our chances. Who knows what we could be, what threat we could be next year and then years to come if they work it out and are able to keep this group together.”

Lakers Have Big Decisions To Make

No matter what happens over the next few weeks, this summer will be a crucial moment for the franchise, and GM Rob Pelinka will have to choose between keeping this team together or rolling the dice on bringing in a star.

“From what I’ve been told, they’re not going to be pursuing Kyrie Irving this offseason…,” Jovan Buha reported. “To my knowledge and to what I’ve been told, the Kyrie ship, I think, has sailed. You never want to say never. That could easily change, but as of right now, their plan is to run this (team) back.”

Only time will reveal the ceiling of this Lakers group, but they are certainly in a better position now than a year ago. Let’s just hope that they can make the most of it and capitalize on all the new additions.
