By now, the NBA MVP race is usually over. Yet, somehow, the NBA community has yet to reach a consensus on who deserves the honor this year with just a few weeks to go in the season.

If you ask Doc Rivers, he’ll side with Joel Embiid for obvious reasons but it doesn’t mean he wants to see other worthy candidates be brought down with negativity.

“I thought he (Embiid) was the MVP last year, but I wanna make a point,” Rivers said, via Sixers Wire. “Can we stop trying to put people down? We should be celebrating our guys in the league. Giannis, Jayson Tatum, Joker, all of them are great. We don’t need to push one down to elevate the other guy. They all are completely different players. They are. Joel, in my opinion, is the best of that, and I don’t think anyone needs me to campaign for him,” Rivers continued. “I think the proof is in the pudding. Having said that, I respect all of them. I don’t know what’s going on lately, it just seems like to validate one, you have to push down the other guy. No, you don’t. They’re all great. There’s nothing wrong with saying that, and in my opinion, Joel is the best of that group,” Rivers finished. “That’s not putting down anyone. We need to stop this stuff that’s going on right now.”

This year, more than most, fans and analysts have been going out of their way to discredit the MVP campaign of another, whether it be Jokic, Giannis, or Embiid.

Kendrick Perkins is obviously among the most guilty parties in all of this, as it was he who first spread the theory that Jokic is ‘stat-padding’ to increase his MVP odds.

Who Will Win The MVP This Season?

Thanks to Denver’s recent struggles, it is widely believed that Joel Embiid will be the next one to win MVP with a narrow victory over Jokic and Embiid.

But with things so close, it’s impossible to be sure of anything right now. Depending on which teams go on a run here in the home stretch of the season, we could see things change drastically over the next few weeks.

Until then, let’s just appreciate what each of these guys brings to the table and recognize that they are all worthy of winning the MVP.
