The Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Dallas Mavericks in their most recent matchup during the NBA regular season. Considering that LeBron James was sidelined from the Lakers and Luka Doncic from the Mavericks, it was expected to be a thrilling competition.
Well, the two teams didn’t disappoint and gave fans a game to remember for ages. The Lakers were winning the matchup until Kyrie Irving decided to take over the game. Lakers head coach Darvin Ham talked about Irving’s performance in the postgame conference.
“I mean, he got pretty much a line drive pass over to Kleber, but he started torching us a little bit down the stretch,” Ham said. “Thus our decision to start blitzing him and double-teaming him. We made it difficult, try to be as active as possible, and (Irving) found an open guy, and we didn’t get there fast enough. AD had a last minute outstretched contest, but it’s tough. It’s like Indiana all over again.”
Darvin Ham certainly looks sad after failing the opportunity to win the game. While Maxi Kleber made a great shot, it was Kyrie Irving who kept the Mavericks competitive throughout the game.
Kyrie finished the game with 38 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists while leading the Mavericks to a stunning 111-110 victory over the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers Are in a Tough Spot Right Now
The Los Angeles Lakers were having a great redemption arc where they were easily winning games. However, the Purple and Gold have seemingly hit a rock over the last two games.
The Lakers have lost back-to-back close games against the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks. As a result, they now have a 34-37 record in the West and are still teh 10th seed in the conference.
Although the Lakers will be able to still qualify for the play-in tournament if they stay as the 10th seed in the conference, they can very easily fall out of the playoffs too.
