Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant found himself in hot water after posing with a gun during a recent Instagram Live session. The fallout has been huge for Ja, who was served with a suspension as his reputation sank to an all-time low.
But after the NBA’s full investigation (which found that the gun was not Morant’s), the young point guard broke his silence for a public interview with Jalen Rose, where he accepted accountability for his actions.
“The gun wasn’t mine,” said Ja. “It’s not who I am. I don’t condone any type of violence, but I take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve made a bad mistake.”
While it was an acceptable statement for some fans, many just didn’t buy that Ja was being sincere, especially since there have been multiple reports of violent and “unhinged” behavior from the 2x All-Star and fans expressed their feelings in the comments of Morant’s exclusive interview. Naturally, some took it a step too far.
“His apology,” wrote one fan, who cited a scene from the tv show ‘The Boondocks.’

Ja doesn’t have to prove himself to anyone, especially to angry Twitter users, but he has work to do if he wants to win back the trust of the NBA community and you can’t blame the Grizzlies star for doing what he can to mitigate the damage. At this point, it’s really all that’s left for him to do before he re-takes the court for the Grizzlies.
But, no matter what you think of his recent behavior or his apology, we can all agree that actions speak louder than words and people are going to find it tough to trust Ja until he proves that all of the off-court drama is a thing of the past.
What’s Next For Ja Morant And The Grizzlies?
Say what you want about the ordeal, but nobody can prove he was lying or disingenuous with his words and we have no choice but to accept it and move on. Now, his focus will shift to the playoffs and silencing the haters in the same way we’ve seen him do for years now: by dominant play on the court.
If Morant is able to play his best basketball, and take his team to the depths of the postseason, it will be a good start in winning back the court of public opinion.
Until then, he’ll just have to deal with being, arguably, one of the most polarizing players in the game right now.
