Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become one of the brightest stars in the NBA over the years. He has also established himself as the cornerstone player for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Being a star in the league, many players expect to be treated differently by referees. It oftentimes leads to arguments between players and referees. However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is someone who we have rarely seen get into an argument with the refs. The 24-year-old recently explained why that’s the case.

“I like to have a conversation with them,” Shai said. “No matter how hard they try, they’re not gonna get them all right. They have a job that at the end of the night, nobody is like ‘thanks to the refs.’”

SGA on why he doesn’t argue with refs like some other superstars: “I like to have a conversation with them. No matter how hard they try, they’re not gonna get them all right. They have a job that at the end of the night, nobody is like ‘thanks to the refs.’”

At first sight, it may have seemed a shot at the referees, but on a closer look, it’s obvious that Shai was taking the side of the referees.

It’s rare to see an NBA player do that, especially in recent seasons. After all, the referees are always under the flame for getting crucial calls wrong. Shai’s praise may have helped him get on the positive side of the referees, and many fans now expect him to get more calls in his favor.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander And The Oklahoma City Thunder Can Still Advance To The Playoffs

The competition in the Western Conference is at an all-time high this season. There are many teams in the mid-to-low table that have a genuine shot at ramping things up come playoff time.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of those said teams. Following a sensational win against the Brooklyn Nets, the Thunder are now 34-35 and hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference table.

They are tied with the Lakers and the Mavericks for the record. Keeping that in mind, the next few games are very crucial for OKC, and Shai will definitely play a crucial role in helping the team potentially win those games.
