Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the more feared forwards in the NBA, and it’s tough to guard him once he gets going. And in what comes as candid opinion, the Milwaukee Bucks star explained the only way he could be guarded.

Speaking to Taylor Rooks in a TNT interview, Antetokounmpo made a bold statement. “Not trying to sound arrogant – that’s not who I am – but it’s very hard,” he said when asked how he could be guarded. “You don’t guard KD 1-on-1, you don’t guard LeBron 1-on-1….but the whole team has to work together…I’m pretty stubborn. I try to get in that paint.”

How do you guard Giannis?

Antetokounmpo’s confidence stems from the fact that his towering frame and athleticism help him attack his way to the rim. Adding to this is his improved play on both ends of the floor which makes him a dangerous opponent to deal with.

Brian Windhorst Gets Real On Why Giannis Antetotokounmpo Deserves MVP This Season?

Even as Nikola Jokic is considered to be the frontrunner to win MVP this season, there have been pressing cases for the award to go to Giannis Antetokoumpo.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst was vocal in his opinion about Antetokounmpo as a deserving MVP candidate. Recently, he outlined why the forward should be a prime contender:

“This guy does so much for his team at both ends of the court…he had my vote two weeks ago, he’s got my vote today…The Celtics haven’t done anything but win,” Windhorst said. “The Celtics have been in the first place since October, and they’re still playing great. And they just walked down by the Bucks because Giannis is driving that train.”

At the time of writing, Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.3 PPG, 12.0 RPG, and 5.4 APG this season and his team is one of the legitimate contenders to make the playoffs. Given his dominant style of play and consistency, Milwaukee is labeled as one of the teams to beat in the tournament, with him doing the bulk of the scoring.

Only time will tell if the ‘tough to guard’ Antetokounmpo can lead his team to another NBA championship.
