Mavericks star Luka Doncic became one of the big stories of the day after getting tangled up in a heated altercation with Suns star Devin Booker.

After a series of back-and-forth jabs, the two players nearly got physical in a viral moment that everyone is talking about. But it didn’t stop there.

After the game, which the Mavericks lost down the stretch, Doncic took it upon himself to make one final comment on the situation.

“It’s a competitive game,” Doncic said. “It’s all good. Next time, just don’t wait until there are three seconds left to talk.”

Clearly, Luka isn’t a fan of Devin Booker’s late-game trash talk but that could have been part of the grand plan. It’s no secret, after all, that Luka has a tendency to lose himself when his emotions are too high and it seems like Booker became a huge distraction for him.

Sadly, that’s the last time we will see these two teams face off until the playoffs, but Doncic is certainly raising some questions about his readiness to win at the highest level.

How Far Can The Mavericks Go This Season?

After Jalen Brunson left the Mavs over the summer, Luka and Jason Kidd made it a point to pressure the front office into making a move for Irving. The Mavs granted that wish, hopeful that a Luka/Kyrie tandem would be enough to offset their lack of depth.

So far that has not been the case and the flaws are clear to see on both ends of the floor.

“It’s not gonna work, I never thought it was going to work,” said Charles Barkley. “They don’t bring enough diversity to the table. They don’t play defense, they don’t rebound the ball. When you talk about sacrifice, I got traded to Phoenix and I knew I was going to rebound. Luka gets rebounds but not like that, it ain’t the same. His rebounds are just rebounds, they’re not gaming-deciding rebounds. all rebounds are not created equal. They’re both great one-on-one basketball players and that’s the problem.”

While it’s still too early to draw any conclusions on the new-look Mavericks, they have a lot of kinks to iron out before they can call themselves legitimate title contenders.

The problem is, with Kyrie Irving’s impending free agency, time is not promised for Dallas’ star-studded duo.
