Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors could take different paths this summer, as the player decided to opt out of his player option and will test the waters of free agency this year.
A lot has been said about this situation, but Green has always kept it real. During a recent conversation with Paul George on his ‘Podcast P,’ Green opened up on his current relationship with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson amid all the free agency rumors going around (2:10 mark).
“You know I’m going through free agency right now. And you hear this, and you hear that, and I’m just updating them on my thoughts every step of the way. I update them because I don’t want to get to a point where if I was to leave, A. you can’t control the news anymore. And if I leave, it’s just like, ‘Wham, hey fellas, just FYI, I’m gone.’ Or it can come across at your phone and I didn’t get a chance to tell you. I’m in touch with them a couple of times a week right now, letting them know my mindset, what I’m thinking, what I’m hearing.”
Draymond explains that he doesn’t want to ghost his friends or spend a lot of time without talking to them, and he’s giving them updates on what he’s thinking so they won’t be surprised if he decides to leave the Warriors and will simply send a message saying he’s out.
Those breakups are hurtful for a lot of people, especially when you have shared so many incredible moments. The Warriors Big Three is one of the most memorable and successful in the NBA in recent years.
It would be odd to see Green joining another team this offseason, but anything can happen in the NBA. The Dubs want to have him back, but the final word on this belongs to Green, and he’s not closing any doors just yet.
Draymond Green Reportedly Met With Damian Lillard In Portland
For instance, Green reportedly met Damian Lillard this week at a Portland restaurant. It’s not hard to imagine what they must have talked about it, but this shows that Green is still a valuable asset in the league, and he can help a big scorer reach new levels.
The Sacramento Kings were also mentioned among Green’s sweepstakes, and the Houston Rockets could make a run for his services too. This will be a big free agency for Green and the Warriors, and we’re closer to seeing what’s going to happen with them.
