Everything was going great for the Boston Celtics in the first half of the season, but it might be time now to start ringing the alarm bells.

The Celtics blew a 28-point lead on Friday night to lose 115-105 to the Brooklyn Nets in what was a total embarrassment. It is the largest comeback made by a team this season and Jayson Tatum was asked about his feelings after the brutal loss.

“Like Joe (Mazzulla) said when he came in, we lost it was tough,” Tatum said. “But disbelief? No, we didn’t play well, they played better than we did and usually you lose. So, it’s not disbelief, I don’t even know if it’s anger. Played too many games to be angry. Move on (and) get ready for the next one. It is what it is essentially.”

While you can understand the need to be level-headed after such losses, Celtics fans probably want to see a little bit more passion and anger from Tatum. It is unacceptable for a team as good as the Celtics to lose in this manner and as the best player on the team, he needs to send a stern message to the rest of the players.

The Celtics were leading 51-23 with just over 7 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter and with just under 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd, the game was tied at 70-70. The fans expressed their frustrations by booing the team in that 3rd quarter, as they should have. Tatum didn’t have the best of games either, as while he had 22 points to go with 13 rebounds, he shot 0-8 from beyond the arc. It continues a worrying shooting trend for the Celtics star, but his teammates aren’t worried about it.

The Celtics Are In Danger Of Falling Out Of Contention For The Top Seed

This loss meant the Celtics are now 4-3 in their last 7 games and have fallen to 45-19 on the season. They are now a full game behind the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks, who have won 16 games in a row to get to 45-17. It doesn’t look like Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are going to have too many slip-ups the rest of the way and the Celtics, it would appear, will struggle to keep pace with them.

For much of this season, the Celtics looked like the best team in the NBA, but it is safe to say that is no longer the case. Charles Barkley even said that the Bucks are now the team to beat and the Celtics will need to get their act together if they are to return to the NBA Finals.
