Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is one of the elite guards in the NBA, and there’s no questioning his talent on the offensive end. However, he has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism this year, with many people questioning Young’s leadership ability.
A recent report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype shed some light on Trae Young’s long-term future with the Atlanta Hawks. He relayed the words of an NBA scout, who revealed that Quin Snyder is Trae Young’s “last shot” with the Atlanta Hawks.
“The scout also said he believes this is Trae Young’s last shot in Atlanta since this will be his third head coach, which is a sentiment that others around the league have suggested as well,” said Scotto. “You’ve now got the best coach that was on the market. This isn’t a situation like when Lloyd Pierce was there and they were rebuilding. Nate McMillan was a short-term fix, but was never going to be the long-term guy. He kind of resisted even taking the job at first.”
As of now, Trae Young has a solid co-star that he wanted in Dejounte Murray, as well as a good coach and a solid supporting cast. The pressure is now on him to perform, and we’ll see how far he can lead them in the future.
Trae Young is currently averaging 27.1 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 10.1 APG for the Atlanta Hawks. His production suggests that he should be an All-NBA player, but the results simply haven’t been there this season. Hopefully, though, we see Young help the team make the playoffs, and then make win a series or two in the Eastern Conference.
Trae Young’s Leadership Has Been Criticized This Season
There have been some reports that have shed light on the Hawks’ current situation. One previous report suggested that there is a disconnect between Trae Young and “many” of his teammates, adding that the star “fails to lead”.
“Starting with the locker room, it’s no secret there’s a serious disconnect between Young, the team’s star player, and many — though some say nearly all — of his teammates. He is not beloved, sources say, and there’s a strong view that Young fails to lead, to understand or care to understand what is required of him, and that as a result the team will never achieve what it should until that reality is fixed”, said Bill Reiter.
There are obviously many sides to every story, and it is possible that the situation in the Hawks’ locker room isn’t as drastic as it is described here. The key, of course, is for the team to win, as generally, everyone is happy when their squad is winning.
Hopefully, we see the Atlanta Hawks make a winning run during this last stretch of the season. They definitely have the talent to find success, and we’ll see what happens going forward.
