The Los Angeles Lakers became the first team this season to successfully come back from a 27-point deficit and win the game after their performance against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers trailed by 27 in the second quarter and went on to win the game by 3 points, becoming the first team to successfully overturn a deficit that large out of 138 other failed instances.

This was a truly horrific meltdown by the Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks, with the Lakers managing to contain the star duo after a hot start in the American Airlines Center.

Mavs blow a 27-point lead to lose to the Lakers. NBA teams were 138-0 this season in games they led by 27 or more, per @ESPNStatsInfo.

The key factor behind the Lakers’ win was Jarred Vanderbilt, who changed the game in the second half with his excellent defense on Doncic. He scored 15 points while pulling down 17 rebounds to dominate the Mavs. His perimeter pressure was a game-changer, as he got 4 steals on the night.

One Of The Strongest Wins Of The Lakers Season?

This win could be the example the entire team looks back on at tough points in the remaining games this season as what they need to strive for. They have had similarly large comebacks in games earlier this season that didn’t end up materializing in wins, so pulling this off has to feel good.

Outside of Vanderbilt, Anthony Davis was the star man for the Lakers tonight. He scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to punish the Mavericks’ weak interior defense and rim protection. LeBron James left the game with a foot injury that could be concerning, but he had 26 points and 8 rebounds on the night.
