Josh Hart explains why hustle plays are crucial.

Josh Hart is one of the best role players in the league as of right now, and he is a player that is known for having a “swiss-knife” skillset and is capable of doing a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor.

Recently, a video of Josh Hart making a hustle play went viral on Twitter, with the poster Rob Perez noting that Hart made similar plays multiple times against the Washington Wizards. Josh Hart reacted to the post, stating that when one is playing poorly offensively, the key is to do “little things to impact the game”.

There is no doubt that players who hustle and make effort plays are key for any team. Those sorts of plays can often energize the team and get better defensive effort from one’s teammates simply by motivating them. Big-time plays get more attention if they are on the offensive end, but these sorts of defensive plays are extremely key as well.

Josh Hart was notably traded to the New York Knicks by the Portland Trail Blazers ahead of the trade deadline. The forward has put up 14.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 3.0 APG for the Knicks thus far, averaging 57.1% from the field and 60.0% from the 3PT range. He looks like he could be a key piece for the Knicks down the stretch, with the team trying to make the playoffs and avoid the play-in tournament.

The New York Knicks Wanted Kevin Durant Ahead Of The Trade Deadline

The New York Knicks acquired a solid role player in Josh Hart this year, and the move clearly makes them better. However, it seems as though they originally had their sights set higher. Previously, Bill Simmons revealed that the New York Knicks were in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.

“I think the Knicks were the other team in this K.D. thing,” said Simmons. “It’s unclear to me whether they were an actual, real pursuer… It’s unclear to me if they were a real pursuer, or if they were trying to jack up the price for K.D. with the Suns kind of hoping maybe Booker down the road… He’s not a free agent until 2028, but if this turns into a situation where they have their run for three years and then it’s a rebuild and Devin Booker is like ‘Alright, well we had our run, we won our title, whatever.”

There is no doubt that Kevin Durant would have been a good addition to the New York Knicks. They have a solid roster, and all they’re lacking is a superstar that can take them over the top.

It remains to be seen if the New York Knicks end up making a run for Kevin Durant or Devin Booker in the future. It is clear that they have their eyes set on the premier stars in the league, and perhaps we’ll see a top-tier player join the franchise in the coming years.
