Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has done everything you could possibly want from your franchise guy. He’s a great leader, a great performer, and he continues to be one of the NBA’s greatest scorers.
But in a recent conversation with his former Blazers teammate Evan Turner, he admitted that he doesn’t feel like he gets the respect he deserves from the NBA media.
“They better pray I don’t win a championship for the Blazers. They better pray because the same way you like ‘they don’t know that side’… they better pray I don’t win a championship for the Blazers.”

Obviously, Lillard is one of the best players in the league today, and his place at the top of Portland’s All-Time scoring list likely makes him the greatest player in franchise history.
Despite Portland’s woes as a team, this season is actually one of Lillard’s personal best. With averages of 31.4 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game on 46.7% shooting, he is proving that he’s still among the elite superstars in the game.
The question is, can the Blazers ever get over the hump, or is Lillard doomed for early playoff exits for the rest of his career?
Portland Trail Blazers Making A Push For The Playoffs
As the 12th seed in the West, the path to the postseason for the Blazers is very narrow, and many obstacles are in the way. Now that Lillard himself confirmed that Portland is going to avoid tanking this season, we can expect them to play with some more urgency in this final stretch of the season.
Sadly, with no true secondary star to help Lillard, Portland is only going to get so far. Even if they somehow do make it past the play-in tournament, they’d be major underdogs to beat any of the top teams in the West.
This summer, however, things could change. After a series of moves this trade deadline, GM Joe Cronin is in a position to make a big splash before the start of next October.
Until then, however, it falls on Dame to deliver and carry his squad as far as he possibly can.
