The Western Conference is going to be a bloodbath in the final months of the season, with teams separated by a small margin of games when it comes to their playoff positioning. The Memphis Grizzlies have held on to the No. 2 seed in the West for most of the season but have come under threat.

Ja Morant proudly proclaimed that he wasn’t scared of any team in the West earlier in the season when the Grizzlies were competing for the top seed in the conference, a reality that has changed significantly.

They are only 2.5 games ahead of the third-seed Sacramento Kings at the moment and are under threat from the Clippers, Suns, and Mavericks.

Morant finally had to talk about his comment in front of a Western Conference rival, Luka Doncic in an interview with Mallika Andrews. Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell were also there, laughing as Andrews asked the Western Conference guards which one of them is fine in the West. Morant stuck with his statement while Doncic laughed with the group.

Who is fine in the west?

Morant had praised the Celtics in his previous statement and relived it in front of their star Jayson Tatum as well. Ja’s confidence is infectious and players need to be that confident to succeed on the court. However, it also means they will be ridiculed if it falls apart.

Are The Memphis Grizzlies Fine In The West?

No team in the Western Conference is safe. Even the dominant Denver Nuggets aren’t safe, due to the talent spread around the West this season. The Nuggets could lose to an 8th-seeded Lakers in the first round while the Grizzlies could lose to a 7th-seeded Golden State Warriors. Nothing is guaranteed in this conference after the trade deadline.

The Grizzlies have struggled against the 14 teams in the West, having a conference record of 17-16. They are in a rough spell right now and blew a massive lead to the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. This was their 10th loss in their last 15 games. Morant had a rough game, shooting 18% from the field in a 15-point outing.

They have many things to work on to become bonafide contenders and it’d be pre-emptive to call them the favorites in the West, no matter the talent they have on paper.
