Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are now the only two All-Star starters this season on the same team. The Dallas Mavericks had been looking to pair Luka with a superstar, and they found a way to do that by getting Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline. The results have been mixed so far, and the two haven’t gelled together on the court just yet, but things are looking promising in Dallas.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving shared some fun, light-hearted moments during All-Star Weekend. They are among the two best guards in the NBA, and it seems only a matter of time before they figure out how to thrive together on the court. As questions about their chemistry continue to be asked, though, an old Luka Doncic video from 2018 has resurfaced where he talks about Kyrie Irving.

Mitch Creek: “Do you think the earth is flat or round?”

Luka Doncic: “Hmm. I’ll go with Kyrie, I’ll say flat.”

This is hilarious to look at in hindsight, considering what a big deal was made of Kyrie Irving saying that the earth was flat. He has since elaborated on what he meant, but his new co-star has been a supporter of him for a while, even if it was meant as a bit of a joke. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have the potential to be great playing alongside one another, and even outside of this, the respect they have for one another is evident.

Luka Doncic Is Happy To Play With Kyrie Irving Despite Early Struggles

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving haven’t won a game together yet, they suffered losses against the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves. But despite this, Doncic is happy to play alongside his new co-star, as reported by ESPN’s Tim McMahon.

“It’s obviously in its early stages. But I’ve never seen Luka Doncic smile so much after a loss than he did Saturday night in Sacramento. All [Luka] could talk about is how fun it is to play with Kyrie Irving. He said ‘so fun’ three times and ‘really fun’ three times. He is happy to have Kyrie Irving and they’ll figure out the dynamic as far as sharing the ball and those types of things. They both have a lot of respect for each other’s talents. “

The Dallas Mavericks have every opportunity to excel this season, they have the best backcourt in the league. The Western Conference remains wide open, and they have just about 20 games to figure it out before the playoffs begin. If Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving can figure it out, they could become truly unstoppable.
