NBA Stars Don’t Like When Older Generations Say The Game Has Become Soft: “Just Because We Don’t Get Into Fights…”

NBA stars hate that older generations say that the league today has gone soft.

The NBA has been around for several decades, and it’s only natural for the league to go through changes every few years. One of the biggest differences between the NBA today and a few decades ago is the level of toughness.

The NBA is much stricter with its rules nowadays as compared to the 1980s or the 1990s. Evidently, it has reduced the number of fights that fans got accustomed to seeing between players.

But older generation players have used that as an excuse to call today’s league ‘soft’ repeatedly. Well, there is only so much of that narrative that the modern-day NBA players can handle, and it has led to some of them clapping back at the older generations.

What complaint from OG’s are you tired of hearing? Bam Adebayo, Donovan Mitchell and De’Aaron Fox all had the same answer 👀 pic.twitter.com/7euEa04ubu

I would say that the game today is that it’s soft. I don’t like that one, I don’t think that’s the truth. Just because we don’t get into fights, I think that’s probably the only thing. The OG’s laid the foundation for where we’re at now but I don’t think the game is soft though, for sure,” said Donovan Mitchell.

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell was the first to mention it’s not the modern players’ fault that they do not get into fights. But Mitchell was undoubtedly not the only player to speak his mind on the matter.

De’Aaron Fox And Bam Adebayo Also Called Out Older Generations For Calling Today’s Game Soft

The 2023 NBA All-Star game provided De’Aaron Fox and Bam Adebayo to talk about the complaints they had from the older generation. Similar to Mitchell, Fox, and Adebayo also made similar points in a short interview with Rachel Nichols.

“It’s not our fault. We’re not the ones complaining about it. If I could hand check Damian Lillard or SGA, I would do it! Because it would help me stay in front of them,” Fox added.

“I would say ‘the game is soft’ It’s not our fault, like if you watch the stuff that they were doing to Mike, nobody would be like ‘Nah, I would want to play in that,” Adebayo concluded.

As we mentioned earlier, there will always be comparisons between different eras, and each generation will obviously try to speak highly of their respective era.

At the end of the day, both generations are providing entertainment for basketball fans all around the globe, and it’s something that they should be able to agree on without any fuss.
