There is no denying the fact that Karl Malone is one of the greatest players to have ever stepped foot on an NBA court. He won numerous accolades, with the highlight being his 2 MVP awards, but for all of his greatness on the court, some of his actions off it are truly appalling.

Malone’s disturbing past has resurfaced in the last few days after he was invited by the NBA for the All-Star game in Utah and the more you look up, the worse it gets. The most disturbing incident of the lot occurred back in 1983 when a 20-year-old Malone impregnated a 13-year-old girl.

It is an incident that many were either unaware of or had forgotten about, but it is out front and center now. What makes that situation even worse, if that was even possible, was that Malone refused to pay $125 a week in child support, as he claimed the amount was too much, despite having earned millions in the NBA.

via ESPN:

“The Salt Lake (Utah) Tribune reported that when Bell’s grandparents initially took Malone to court for paternity in 1986, his second year with the Jazz, they requested Malone pay $200 a week. Malone didn’t respond to the suit, but a Louisiana judge ruled he was Bell’s father — after a paternity test showed that was indeed accurate — and ordered Malone to pay $125 a week, plus past and future medical expenses. Malone claimed that was too much and later reached a confidential out-of-court settlement with Bell’s family between 1988 and 1989.”

By the time he reached that confidential out-of-court settlement, Malone had earned over $3 million in salaries in the league, but he still wasn’t willing to pay $125 a week. His son Demetress Bell wouldn’t let Malone’s absence keep him down, as he went on to have a 5-year career in the NFL. Bell only managed to meet Malone for the first time when he was 17 years old and was told that it was too late for them to have a father-son relationship and that Bell would have to make it on his own.

Karl Malone Refused To Speak On The Backlash Coming His Way

Bomani Jones was the first one to bring up Malone’s dark past and a lot more people have spoken up against the Hall-of-Famer since then. Malone unsurprisingly refused to discuss any of that backlash when the subject came up during All-Star weekend. He stated that he doesn’t care about it and that it’s his personal life, a response that didn’t sit well with almost everybody.

More previously buried dark stories are coming out regarding Malone, with one of them detailing how he harassed Vanessa Bryant when he was a teammate of Kobe Bryant. Considering how all of this is becoming public knowledge now, it won’t be a surprise if the NBA keeps Malone away from any and all events in the future.
