The 2023 NBA All-Star game is less than 24 hours away and while fans eagerly await to witness the showcase, there is something else to look forward to as well. There has always been a lot of intrigue around the All-Star draft to see just who the captains would pick for their team and the league took it a step further this time around.

The captains will be choosing their teams right before the game itself, an idea that Kevin Durant suggested on his podcast not too long back. While KD was thrilled that the NBA went in this direction, they made another change that he wasn’t too keen on.

It was announced by Ernie Johnson on TNT that the reserves would be chosen first and then the starters, apparently to avoid the embarrassment for whoever would have gotten picked last. Durant, for his part, doesn’t get why any player would feel slighted if they were picked last.

Kevin Durant doesn’t understand why All-Stars would feel slighted by being picked last in the All-Star game

“It’s like the brokest millionaire getting picked.”

That is a great analogy from KD and ultimately, no one is going to remember years down the road that a certain player was picked last. All that matters, is that they made the team. Another reason why this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense is that someone is going to be picked last among the reserves anyway, so we know who is the last pick. It just makes planning the team more difficult for the captains and one of them might be facing some issues the day before the big event.

LeBron James Misses All-Star Practice And Media Day Due To Personal Reasons

LeBron James has been a captain every year since this format has been in place, which points to how he remains the face of the league. He has also been showing off his excellent GM skills, as his team has won every single time as well.

James though seems to be dealing with some issues this time around, as it was announced he would miss practice and media day due to personal reasons. We can only hope it isn’t anything too serious and that all will be okay for James on a personal front.
