Charles Barkley has made it pretty clear over the last few years that he isn’t too fond of the way things are done in the NBA today. Whether it be how the game is played or the power that the stars seem to have, Barkley has been quite vocal in his criticism of today’s players.

He has repeatedly gone after the stars for the load management that is so prevalent in the league today and called it an embarrassment for the NBA. He felt the owners are going to try to do something in the next CBA to stop the players from doing it and they just might.

Another big issue for the NBA and the team owners is player power, with the stars, in particular, having things go their way more often than not. We have seen that with James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant all handing in trade requests since the start of 2022 and Barkley blasted the stars for it recently.

“What the NBA is doing (is) they sending these dudes some messages like okay, what (are) we gonna do about load management? The next thing you see gonna come out like, okay you can’t take my money, and then say you want to divorce me in six months to a year. Because you can only get the max from us, you can’t take all my money and then say ‘Hey, I want a divorce.'”

“So, I’m pretty sure that’s the next thing that’s gonna come out of the CBA. There’s no doubt in my mind these guys are going to get locked out. These owners, you can’t take all their money and treat these owners and fans like crap. What these players are starting to do right now with load management, taking the money then demanding to be traded, no doubt in my mind these guys gonna get locked out.”

The owners will definitely be looking to wrestle some power back from the players, which will be met with heavy resistance by the player’s association. A lockout might well happen, as everyone will be standing their ground. Someone will blink eventually though and it will be interesting to see how the situation pans out.

Charles Barkley Isn’t Happy With How The Game Is Played Today

Barkley was on the All The Smoke podcast recently where he lamented how the game is played today. He stated that it’s awful basketball as the only thing players seem to do is shoot 3s and that the games are simply decided on the 3-point shot.

He also added that he is fine with the likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson taking shots from beyond the arc because they are two of the greatest shooters ever but he isn’t a fan of big men shooting 3s. He is right to an extent that games are nowadays mostly decided on who hits more 3s but at the end of the day, the fans love it and the ratings have gone up, which is all that the NBA cares about.
